Valentine Akande is able to offer a range of scanning services as detailed below.

Gynaecological Ultrasound Scanning

Transvaginal Ultrasound Scanning (TVS) provides a picture of the inside of the body. A scan can check you for problems of the ovary and womb and swellings in the pelvis. Scans are helpful for the following:

  • Polyps, fibroids and thickness of womb linig (endometrium)
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Amenorrhoea (lack  of or irregular periods)
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO)
  • Premature menopause
  • Fluid filled damaged fallopian tubes (hydrosalpinx)
  • Bleeding after the menopause
  • Screening for gynaecological cancers
  • Ovarian reserve assessment

Fertility Ultrasound Scans

Ultrasound scans can monitor if the eggs are developing properly and if they are being released from the ovaries. This is called ovarian follicular tracking.

We can also measure ovarian reserve using ultrasound scans of the ovary to count  the number of follicles (egg sacs) within the ovary called AFC (antral follicle count). AFC is highly predictive of the number of eggs that will be collected and the likelihood of success with IVF treatment. Fertility scans are helpful for:

  • Monitoring Fertility treatment such as IVF or egg donation
  • Ovarian reserve assessment
  • Finding out the reason for fertility or miscarriage problems

HyCoSy

A HyCoSy is a special ultrasound test to check whether your fallopian tubes are open (not blocked). This may help us to establish the reason you are not getting pregnant and decide appropriate treatment for you.
